Reasonable Manhattan hotel

Is there any simple clean hotels near Times Square or around the vicinity that someone can recommend. My husband and I only need a little clean room. Everything seems to be over $300, can we get anything for less?

Check Travelzoo for deals or do a "secret deal" on hotwire...have always had decent places (and Im picky!)

Not in Times Square, but Hotel Newton on the Upper West Side has great rates.

It is only a few blocks from Central Park and you can cut across the park to get to Metropolitan MUSEUM of Art/5th Ave.

Great neighborhood.

You might try Salisbury Hotel 57th St.

Prices in NYC go from high to higher depending on dates. When is this trip? Pod Hotels?

You can stayed in Millennium Broadway Hotel - Times Square. Good hotel, Air-conditioned rooms, Internet facility, parking and most of all reasonable prices which you need.

Check the Row Hotel, on 8th ave., between 44th and 45th.
Small, clean, modern rooms. Nice public areas. You can probably find something there in the $150 range.

When will you be here. There will be lots of places for less than $300 per night in Jan and very few around Thanksgiving.

Also - we know $300 is too much - how much are you willing to pay? $250? $200? If you're looking for $100 that's not a price in NYC - even in Jan - except for bidding Priceline and not knowing what hotel (perhaps very unpleasant) you might get. At the Newton you can get rooms for about $130 plus tax in Jan and about $160 plus tax in March - with prices going up from there throughout the year.

We don;t live far from the Newton. It's a great area and a reliable budget choice that's only 2 subway stops from TS.

If you want a cheap hotel, then you need to expand your search beyond Manhattan, where there are a lot of hotels under $200 per night, primarily in Long Island City Queens, which is exactly 4 subway stops (about 12 minutes) from Times Square. The Country Inn & Suites is a block from a major subway interchange that offers choices of lines that go to Midtown on both the east and west sides between 42nd street and 59th Street. It's often under $150 a night.

Have you bid on Priceline/Hotwire. Looked at booking.com, hotels.com.
Why do you want to be around Times Square!!

"Why do you want to be around Times Square!!"

Just a guess and maybe the OP will respond, but normally the reason for that is that Times Square area is the area of New York City most unlike where most of us live. And many of us who travel prefer to stay in places the most unlike where we live.

But I'd also ask (along with WHEN you are going) how many nights?

My latest discovery is a wonderful "last minute booking specials" site called hoteltonight.com It's especially great if you can book a place that you can cancel up to day of arrival. And while this site lets you book for several days (but only up to a week in advance) the best prices are day of arrival only -- although often the same price will be good for a stay of several days. Examples -- today --Hilton Garden Inn Chelsea $99; Hilton Garden Inn Times Square $115; Hotel Belleclaire, Upper West Side $ 89; Hampton Inn Chelsea $109. Holiday Inn Express Times Square $108. Plenty more.

Maybe Radio City Apartments. It's simple and decent and you have a little kitchenette. Great location, a couple blocks walk into the heart of Times Square and really close subway access. Rate will depend on time of year. They offer a discount for AAA members. I have my res there for June :)

We just stayed at the Holiday Inn Midtown last weekend for $160 after tax. It was a basic hotel but relatively roomy and clean for the city. It's on 57th street, and just a few blocks from Central Park, and walking distance from Times Square. Nothing special, but the price can't be beat!

nytraveler Jan 8th, 2015 05:10 PM

Yes, but that's the JANUARY price. I don;t see that the OP says when they are going - and that is a major price factor.

Dobby is back!!

nytraveler Jan 9th, 2015 05:00 AM

Yes, now he sharing an apt in the village with a 70 year old man - IF you believe it.

As for his silly posts on other topics - best simply ignored.

china_cat Jan 9th, 2015 05:30 AM

we got a good price at the Hilton Garden Inn Times square. But that was for this February.

The NY Hilton Midtown has been offering good winter prices, and I find I can often get it for under $300 except at peak times.
