Reasonable hotels in/@ Boston

I'd like to plan a trip for our family (mom, dad, 2 teens) to Boston. Haven't been there in at least 10 years. Can anyone suggest some nice hotels, motels that won't kill the budget (@$100-125/night). Are there suburbs where we could stay but get into Boston easily on public transportation? We are always looking for the impossible-good price and an indoor swimming pool. Also, suggestions for things to do we wouldn't necessarily know about? Thanks. My Fodor friends have always led me to good choices.

Try the Marriott in Quincy. Its brand new and very near the Red Line. I'm not positive that it has a pool but am betting it does. The Red Line takes you right into the heart of Boston and the Quincy branch is safe and relatively clean. Another option is the former Sheraton Tara in Braintree. You would have to drive to the Red Line but it does have a pool. I'm not quite sure of the name any longer. Maybe other Boston Fodorites would know the name. You may get suggestions for Waltham or Newton also. Newton would have easier access to the Green Line.

The Marriott in Quincy had great rates this summer when I was checking into it for my parents-was around $80/night. It's pretty close to the Quincy ADams T station on the REd Line.
The Holiday Inn in Newton is located at the Riverside T stop on the Green Line and the Newton Marriott is a mile or so away.
Try looking in Boston itself also. Tourism is down in the city, so maybe the hotels are cutting some deals. The only one I can think of in Boston w/a pool is the Colonade-not sure if it's indoor or not though.

PS. In response to the first responder. I'm pretty sure that the Sheraton Tara in Braintree is still that!

The former Sheraton Tara in Braintree is now called the Sheraton Braintree, though it still looks like a fake castle. They have a shuttle to the nearest T stop. Contrary to its blurb on the Sheraton web site, it is NOT near the Freedom Trail; it's at least 10 miles away!

They are also only a mile or two from the South Shore stop of the Logan Express, a private bus shuttle to/from the airport, and across the street from a major regional shoping mall (the South Shore Plaza) and a major movie theater.

BUT if it were me, I'd go on Priceline and bid on an in-town hotel. You 'won't really get the feel for Boston, a great walking city, if you stay in the burbs. And if you stay downtown, you won't have to rent a car (i.e., saving $$$), or spend precious vacation time riding the trains.

Thanks to everyone. I can't wait to start planning. I'm dreaming of lobsters already.

I have not been inside, but I have heard that the Doubletree hotel in Boston (near NE Medical and the Theater district) used to be a highschool, and has great indoor sports facilities (pool, gym, etc.). I think people here mentioned they'd gotten good prices there on some of the online discounters, so you may want to look into it.

There is also an indoor pool at the Holiday Inn at the Riverside T stop in Newton, as well as the Marriott in Newton (but the HI in walking distance from the T). There's also an indoor pool at the Holiday Inn on Beacon St. in Brookline, but I have no idea what the prices there run. It's very well situated and more of an in-town location than the other suburban hotels mentioned here.
