Are you looking for New Mexican food or some other cuisine? Price range? Any other requirements?

Old House - we had a fantastic dinner there several years ago. It was pricy, but worth it. It was an anniversary dinner for us, so the cost was not a consideration.
It's inside the El Dorado hotel and I see that it is still a Fodor's choice.
Two of my sisters went to Santa Fe last year and I recommended this restaurant. They loved it.

In spite for the formal atmosphere, the staff was very friendly from the hostess to the sommalier. It was also nice to walk around the hotel lobby. It's a very beautiful hotel.

Gretchen- give us a little more info as to what you're looking for.
I really like Geronimo's. I've heard some bad things about the place, but I've never experienced anything "bad." Good food, good service, great old and cozy house.
SantaCafe ranks pretty high in my book as well, for special places.
I've had a bad experience at the Inn of the Anasazi. We were staying there and had dinner one night and the service was SLOW and somewhat incompetent. I've eaten there before and after that experience, and I have this feeling that they're resting on their laurels.
(Keep in mind - things change rapidly in the restaurant business.)
The one place we always go to and have enver been disappointed is the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. It's loud and casual. Not at all fancy. But fun. And the food is good (not great, mind you).

No conditions. Just good food. Any kind any price. It is actually son, DIL and DGS, but they will go anywhere.

and THANKS for all so far. That is great.

I liked Geronimo too but yes, it is pricey. I have heard others complain about the service though - but i think it's hit or miss with the service. Food is good though.

For a less expensive but really great food with a nice relaxed atmosphere, you can't beat Pasqual's.

It's been a few years since I have been to SF but I recall really enjoying Coyote Cafe and Pascuals (casual).

How old is DGS? There are some restaurants mentioned here that to me don't appear to be too kid friendly, at least on the surface. Geronimo's is one.

Places like The Shed, Coyote Cafe, and Cowgirl Hall of Fame work better for a family.

Maria's was recommended as a place to try when we're there next month. Comments on that, anyone?

Maria's is beloved of the locals. Always crowded, in fact, we always call for a reservation so we don't have to wait. Really good New Mexican food. I always get tamales. And they are known for their margaritas.

He is a very well behaved almost 6. They probably won't go anywhere that is a total white tablecloth place but he could handle it if 'needed". Again, thanks for all the info guys.

I used to love Cayote Cafe but was disappointed with them this last trip (Thanksgiving weekend). Food seemed to have gone downhill just a little but the service was poor poor poor. I was saddened by this. I did find a GREAT restaurant in Taos though which evened it our for me by the end of the trip. :-)
