Realistic California driving times
I have many estimated driving times for our July trip but I'm looking for realistic ones coming from experience.

1. San Francisco to Fish Camp [Tenaya Lodge]

2. Fish Camp to Monterey

3. Monterey to Morro Bay

4. Morro Bay to L.A.

Thanks to all who have replied. This forum is chock full of information!

Morro Bay to L.A. is just over 3 1/2 hours, but WHERE in L.A? L.A covers a lot of square miles. It will be an extra half hour, to , say, south L.A. or downtown.

Margie,

Assuming you will be driving during non-commute times, here are some rought estimates:

1. 4 1/2-5 hrs.

2. Same

3. 2 1/2-3 hrs.

Former Native

Are those realistic?

Those don't seem realistic for California. They have more of a New Hampshire realism to me.

2.5-3 hours for Monterey to Morro Bay and 3.5 hours for Morro Bay to LA sounds about right unless you run into a lot of traffic around Santa Barbara which can make that drive stretch beyond 4 hours.

Question: Which route from Monterey to Morro Bay?
Down highway 0ne via Big Sur is shortest in miles and scenery is terrific !!!but does take at least
3 1/2 hrs. IF traffic is light. Plus driving south means you are on the ocean side of a narrow 2 lane road!!
Monterey over to 101 and down as far a Paso Robles and cross over to highway one on state route 46 is the quickest and best roads--3hrs.
S.F.to Fish camp 4 + hrs depends on traffic
Fish Camp tp Monterey=4 !/2
Good luck
Thanks to all. I sure hope this rented Chevy Blazer had a CD player! We'll be in the car a lot. I'm sure there's more to see out of those windows compared to driving in South Jersey. We do have the great, warm ocean and soft sandy beaches though.

You've been a great help!
