Real Snow in the South
 

My family has lamented the lack of snow we experience every Christmas in the deep South and we have decided to have a "real" Christmas experience next year. We are looking for a resort area in the upper South - close to Atlanta - with real snow - not the fake snow they pump out. Any suggestions?

I'm just guessing, but Snowshoe, WV? They probably still make snow, though. I don't know that you're going to find anywhere with lots of real snow close to Atlanta.

You've got to head further north than Atlanta if you want to see "real" snow. Try the mountains of western North Carolina or Virginia, or WV, as suggested above.

Try Wintergreen Resort near Charlottesville, Virginia. (But even there, seeing "real" snow is dicey, so they make snow on the slopes.)

If you send me a stamped, self-addressed box I will gladly send you any quantity of all too real snow off my property in time for this Christmas.

We went to Gatlinburg last January, and while there was no snow whatsoever in town. We drove up into the park mountains and there was lots of real snow.

I have decided to try Ski the Wolf near Asheville, NC in February. It is within driving distance to Atlanta and if I don't like sking, or tubing, or whatever else you can do in snow then I will have a "tropical" Christmas next year:-) Thanks for the suggestions.

Well, it snowed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day at my place 81 miles north of Atlanta - but you can't count on it.

The Boone/ Banner Elk area of NC is the best area for a "maybe".

But, I agree with WAY north for snow you can count on. It's not going to happen in the deep south.
