Has anyone done this tour in Seward? If so, what are your comments about it. Thanks.

If you do a search on Alaska you may find some old threads. I think some people recommended the ride. Seavy won the Iditarod. You can get more information about Mitch Seavy himself if you explore the Iditarod website. I also like the website sponsored by Cabela. There were a couple of his pups in a Seward shop when we visited last summer but we did not take the ride.

I have done a search, but nothing concrete. I can't believe that no one that has gone to Alaska has not done this tour at some point.

First, take in the fascinating history and breathtaking beauty as your guide shows you the sights of Seward. Then, head out to Exit Glacier, a major attraction of Kenai Fjords National Park. Enjoy a short walk along the nature trail that takes you to the face of the glacial ice. Watch for mountain goats, moose or bear on the mountainside. During runs, see salmon swimming upstream to spawn.

A hearty lunch will be served at nearby Resurrection Roadhouse before you enjoy IdidaRide's 1 1/2 hour Wilderness Sled Dog Ride and Tour.

At the end of the day, your driver will return you to your hotel, ship or the Alaska Railroad depot. All local transportation and lunch are included in this package.

Hi Deborah, I did a Fodors search on Godwin and found some reviews of the Godwin Glacier dog sledding but it didn't mention Mitch Seavey. With a google search on Mitch Seavey, I can see that his tours also operate out of Seward and is the tour you are asking about. With just a few moments of research, it looks like these are two different tour companies. Maybe someone can clarify this or you can do some additional research. The Godwin tour would be on a sled but the Ididaride with Seavey would be on a wheeled gig.
I also saw some recommendations when I did a Fodors search on Seward but you have to look thru a lot of posts. Good luck with your Alaska trip.

Try a Fodors search on the word sled, too. That brought up an Alaska Trip Report that said they were glad they did the Ididaride even though it seemed expensive.

We did all the things on this tour while in Seward, but we did them individually. The Seavey sled dog ride (on a wheeled cart) and tour is perhaps a bit overpriced, but fun and interesting nevertheless. Exit glacier is beautiful and I recommend seeing it, although we stayed much longer than a tour group would and did the hike to Harding Icefield. We ate dinner at the Resurrection Roadhouse and weren't terribly impressd with the food, but it was OK.

If you don't have your own transportation in Seward it might be worth it to take the tour, but I would save some money and tour individually if you'll have your own car.

We took the Dog Sled ride with Mitch Seavey a few years ago. It was educational and we enjoyed our time there. He has since won the Ididerod so his prices might have gone up. :-)

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I thought the price of $129 was kind of steep. I will have my own transportation, so I can drive to Exit Glacier myself. Maybe the way to go is just the kennel and a sled ride. I appreciate the review of the restaurant too. I did see the description of the tour on their website, but knew someone out there had to have done it at one point or another that could give me some feedback. I appreciate everyone's comments.
