I've just made a reservation for this hotel. I am told it sits atop a Metro Station and is in a good area with Restaurants, etc. As it's very expensive, was this a huge mistake? We have 3 full days just for site seeing. Mostly museums and monuments. Most 5 star hotels are fully booked at this time, thus we chose this hotel. Did we make a mistake with our reservation? Price is not the issue.

Hi just4me, I don't have 1st hand knowledge of that hotel but think you'll be fine. Shopping is awesome there. You'll be competing with commuters (more in evening I'd guess) going to DC. Double check to see if both blue and orange metro lines go to PCity. Were the Mayflower and Jefferson Hotels on your checked list? They are exquisite.

No mistake at all. The hotel is very nice. It is at the Mall at Pentagon City (upscale mall) but you don't realize that when you enter the hotel. There is an exterior entrance in addition to the mall entrance. I stayed there a few years ago and truly enjoyed my visit. It was very convenient to have the metro right there for as we too were doing quite a bit of touring. Again, once you walk into the hotel, you forget about everything around you.

I agree, it's an excellent hotel, convenient to shops, restaurants and the Metro. Some would prefer a hotel in the city for a more urban vibe, in Dupont Circle, say, or the ability to walk to the monuments and museums--the Willard or the JW Mariott--but Pentagon City isn't far out of town, the metro is easy to use, and I think you'll be happy there. And if you land something you think you'd like better, can't you cancel your reservation? I'm not saying you should, not at all! Just trying to reassure you that you didn't make a huge mistake.

It's on the Blue and Yellow lines. On the Yellow line, you can be on the Mall to see the museums in two or three stops. That's actually closer than staying in DuPont Circle.

I'm not sure I would call Fashion Centre "upscale" (although it does have a Nordstroms) but it is perfecly fine. Check out Pentagon Row for a number of restaurants and shops.
