RDU help, please
 

I am meeting an old friend at RDU before his flight home this Sunday. We would like a place we can lunch with not too much noise and at a very relaxed pace. I would prefer to be within twenty minutes of the airport. Any suggestions?

Cap City is not open on Sunday. I think you're going to have trouble finding anything upscale around the airport that's open for lunch on Sunday. There are a few Chinese restaurants in Morrisville - maybe some serve Dim Sum?

We had a pleasant experience in April at the Babymoon Cafe. (the name is just a little too precious, isn't it ?!) I'm not sure of their open days/hours, but you can check out their website http://babymooncafe.com/

Good food and ambience, and definitely in your target area. I noticed several restaurants in the vicinity, but we chose this one based on a recommendation from the Residence Inn folks.

The landmark you can see from the air on approach from the NE is the Angus Barn -- which is a large-turnover steak house. I wouldn't call it quiet but maybe you can get a quiet corner. Not optimal but hard to miss and very close by.

More to the point is that there are many restaurants along rte. 70 (Glenwood Ave) which parallels the airport on the OTHER side from I-40 (and connected via I-540). There's a NeoChina toward Raleigh, and they tend to be good.

And then there are many, many places in the Brier Creek shopping complex just north of the I540-Glenwood rte. 70 junction -- with chains you'd recognize and a few distinctive places of its own. Camille's is simple but might do it for you.

By chance have any of you tried the dining room (Herons, I believe) at the Umstead Resort? If so, what was your opinion?

The Umstead is super-upscale, and Herons is supposed to be the ne-plus-ultra level of cuisine and price in the area. Haven't tried it, saving it for very special occasion or time to impress someone from out of town ;-)

It does look lovely and they said casual would be fine at lunch, but ne plus ultra is not this guy....so maybe another time. Thanks for your reply!
