Ramada Inn 1776 or Days Inn Historic Area

I'm trying to decide between the Ramada Inn 1776 (formerly Holiday Inn 1776) or Days Inn Historic area in Williamsburg for a weekend stay (part of a promotion). Has anyone stayed in either hotels lately? Your comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

lmyers, I live in town so I haven't stayed at either property but I can offer this. The Days Inn Historic has the reputation for being somewhat nicer than your average DI. The Ramada 1776 property has been around for a long time, originally as a kind of a resorty place but that was at least 20 years ago. They are both off of By-Pass Road with the Days Inn being directly off and the Ramada being set back in a wooded and landscape area. If you choose the Ramada I'd advise calling the property to find out when the last time the rooms were renovated.

The Ramada 1776 was the "Holiday Inn 1776" back in 1973 when I lived there, so as obxgirl states, it is OLD. In addition, other hotels and/or timeshares have been built on that same property.

Some friends stayed at that DI and speak well of it. Several eateries nearby the DaysInn too.

Thank you! I think we'll go for the Days Inn. Melissa, this is a promotion (timeshare) so we can only pick between the Ramada or Days Inn (or a comparable hotel). We stayed at the Woodlands last year during our first visit to Colonial Williamsburg and enjoyed are large room very much (wish we could stay there again but it is much more expensive that the DI or Ramada). Thank you again, I really appreciate your comments.
