Raleigh, NC - places to see?
I will be visiting Raleigh, North Carolina for the first time on August 14th & I have 3 full days to enjoy the city (& surrounding area up to a hour drive away) & I hoping that some people who are familiar with this part of the country can suggest some places to see, things to do, good eating places, etc. I enjoy nature, walking, swimming & canoeing. I've heard there is a large greenway system, what are the best parts? Thanks for any help!

Umstead Park,Duke University, the North Carolina Arboreteum, the State House, the North Carolina Museum of Art will get you started.

If you like pottery think about a day trip to Seagrove, near Asheboro. Upwards of 100 potters in the area. Don't forget to eat some NC BBQ--that would be pulled pork.

The Durham Bulls (AAA baseball) have a home day game on Aug 14th at 1:00pm. This is their only home game while you are here.
Visit the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill and walk down Franklin Street. Eat dinner at the Angus Barn (near RDU airport.) This is the most famous restaurant in the Raleigh area. |
thanks for the ideas

Raleigh is a wonderful place to live as it has close proximity to the ocean and the mountains as well as other activities but it is not a hotbed for sightseeing. You might want to try this website:
