Raleigh Area Restaurant for B-day

Hello to the folks in NC,
I'm looking for recommendations for a nice restaurant in the Raleigh area to take my hubby for his birthday this weekend. He would like a really good steak. We live in Apex (but are newbies to the area - been here 6 months). It can be in Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Durham.... a great special occasion restaurant is worth the drive! :)

Thanks for any help you can provide! Paula

The best steak I've eaten in the Raleigh area is at Ruth's Chris in Cary. Granted it's been a few years. Angus Barn is nice for the ambiance, but not as good a steak.

Not quite on the same level, I more recently ate at Firebirds Rocky Mountain Grill in North Hills in Raleigh. It may not be as nice as you'd like for a birthday dinner, but I really enjoyed the steak. Maybe that could just be a date night at some other time for you guys.

I love Margaux Cafe! Wonderful romantic spot!

Thanks to you both for the recommendations. Paula

Paula - when my DH made a reservation last weekend at Angus Barn they asked him if anyone was celebrating a birthday. It seems like they make a big deal out of celebrations. The place is huge and he said there were lots of balloons at different tables and a lot of celebrations going on. He said the steak was good, not great, but they gave them tons of food.

Birdie - Thanks. Yes, we have been once to the Angus Barn, and yes, they do make a big thing out of celebrations, but I have to say, I have had better steaks for less $$ at other nearby restaurants.

GoTravel - Thanks again for the recommendation!! We went to Margaux's and the food was excellent. It was a great birthday celebration. Paula

Sullivans downtown along Glenwood South if you want a more urban feel and a really nice restaurant. Also, JKs in North Hills is suppose to be very good.
