Rainy day suggestions Harpers Ferry & Luray area
I have a great itinerary planned for a mid October trip to the Harper's Ferry and Luray, VA area. Most of my activities are out of doors, so if it's rainy, I'm in trouble. Other than Luray caverns and the museums at Harper's Ferry, does anyone have suggestions for fun activities that are indoors should the weather not cooperate? Thanks!

most of the best activities I can think of are out of doors, anyway, in the general area, like ANtietam.
You can visit Shepherdstown, not too far and a cute little town. Now I don't know that there are great thigns to do there indoors, either, just an idea. http://shepherdstown.info/ If you are into gambling, you can go to Charles Town WV. There is a premium outlet at Hagerstown MD which is only about 25 miles away, for shopping. |
Who is going to be on the trip?--if it is adults who consume alcohol, I would search for some wineries and distilleries (there are some near Luray for sure).
Route 11 Potato Chips factory is about 30 min from Luray. I've been here. It's cute and you can watch them make chips through the windows. But it's not like there is an official tour or anything. More like a fun roadside stop. There's a place called T Bowl Lanes that supposedly offers duckpin bowling which is a bit different--again about 20 min away from Luray. Also Ruby's Arcade in Harrisonburg (45 min from Luray) also has duckpin. I can't vouch for either place-they are just on my radar to try sometime as I think duckpin bowling is fun and have not been since I was a kid. Hope the weather is gorgeous so you won't need these backups! |
