Rainbow Room
 

Could someone tell me about the Rainbow Room? I was interested in going there for a drink before attending the theater. Is it very expensive? Should I make reservations? I understand the view is beautful. Any other suggestions for places that have a fabulous view of the city at night. Is it possible to just go for a drink, rather than dinner? Thank you for your help.

I would also like to hear your responses about the Rainbow Room as I'd like to have a drink there when we visit this Spring...also what is appropriate dress. Thanks.

Check out the review on citysearch (http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/11411247). The fixed price menu is $140 per person. So it is very expensive. It is way up in the GE building at Rockefeller Center, so the view at night is spectacular.

I hope somebody helps you here.<BR> I don't think the Rainbow Room is open on a regular basis, sadly (to me it's one of the Deco treasures of the city, I used to go there in the 60s and pretend it was the 30s).<BR><BR> And when it is open, I don't know if there is regular bar service (versus only being able to go for a whole dinner).<BR><BR> If is IT posssible to just go to the bar, AND the bar isn't located someplace with no view, then--that would be grear.

My husband and I recently took my parents to the Rainbow Room for their anniversary. Although it is quite expensive, about $140 pp for dinner, the setting is gorgeous art deco, the views are spectacular and the big band takes you back to a different era. Dress for dinner varies from cocktail dresses to gowns - suits to tuxes, I saw a big variation the night we were there. There is also a separate bar that I don't believe you need reservations for, but I would call first. Its definitely something to do at least once!

One clarification, what was the Rainbow Room is now Cipriani's, a semi-private club. While they still use the Rainbow Room name, techinically, it is Cipriani's.<BR><BR>The original intention was to make it an exclusive, private club. However, that was not a successful as they anticiapted. It is open most nights to the public. Although, I thought they kept it a private club on Saturdays. That may have changed.<BR><BR>Personally, I always preferred the Greatest Bar on Earth at Windows on the World.

Oh Ryan so true so true~<BR>I remember the first time we went to Windows on the World.My husband took our young son and I for Thanksgiving dinner.We were there before it got dark so we could enjoy the city by day then watched as the sun set and all the lights came on.The service was great.Then last year, my now grown son, took a girl there for a Latin dancing night~all these years later and he was dancing away .. just months before it would be gone..
