rain in washington dc
 

we will be in washington dc sept 10-16 and rain is predicted the entire time. we'll spend time in museums, of course.

can you recommend a covered tour you've taken and enjoyed?

Rain is just water. You are not made of spun sugar and will not melt. Get an umbrella and make sure you shoes are waterproof and just go do whatever you want.

I'm always amazed at people who are so overwrought about a little water. Granted - it can ruin a picnic or camping out - but in a city it really makes not a lot of difference.

(Are all these questions from people who drive everywhere and aren't used to walking around in all the various elements? This, along with all the questions about "rain gear" - which IMHO is an umbrella - are just beyond me. We think nothing of going for an hour or more walk in rain or snow or whatever after Sunday brunch to work off the calories. Unless it's a hurricane or a blizzard, what's the big deal?)

All the tour companies--except that wretched Duck tour--have inside space. So you can pick any of them; I'm partial to the Park Service's tour because my taxes are paying for it.

It's also likely that it won't rain all day, every day. You will likely have plenty of dry time, despite the forecast

The forecast is bit far out in time to be really accurate so don't fret yet. And I agree with MikeT.

nytraveler is being her usual self. Apparently you just get crotchety when you're that old.

Willis, on our first trip to DC, I was worried about the rain as well. Everyone is correct about an umbrella and water-proof shoes. I was pleasantly surprised to see that just about anywhere you go, lockers or coatchecks are available, so there is no need to worry about lugging around an umbrella and coat. Just go and enjoy! More than likely, the rain will have subsided before you even arrive.

I've enjoyed the Park Service tour too, but with an umbrella & raincoat you can go from museum to museum /shop to shop and come out when the rain lightens up. It shouldn't be too cold & hopefully the weather will be better than predicted.

I've been to Arlington National Cemetary a few times, but the one I remember was when it was raining. It seemed very fitting, it was empty and surreal.
