Rain all day long in NYC?
No matter how much you plan ahead, there's one thing you can't plan on- the weather! After having carefully thought everything out so as to make the most of our visit to NYC, it's supposed to rain the whole week (June 21-29th)- and to think I was planning to spend much of my time in Central Park since we've never had the chance to do that before! When it rains there, does it rain all day long or just in the afternoons or mornings?

It depends. Sometimes the whole day can be a washout. Sometimes there are just a few storms in the afternoon/evening. It's rained here basically since the beginning of May, with only a few days with no rain. Just keep thinking positive and go about your business with an umbrella and raincoat. Don't let the weather ruin your trip.

I'm assuming, sej, that you're not from the Northeast USA. In that part of the country, it's hard to predict how long rain will last -- unlike some areas where you get a predictable shower only in the afternoon.
In places like NY, it could be a minute, and hour, or a week. Check the local weather report.

Actually, it's only supposed to rain over the weekend, like it has here every weekend in memory. Monday the forecast is 85 and sunny--bitter irony for those of us who work, but good news for tourists and vacationers.
But look at it this way: the rain is keeping most New Yorkers from going away over the weekends, so as a tourist you'll get more of a taste of what New York is really like. Bars and restaurants that are normally empty over the summer will be filled with glum and embittered New Yorkers--perfect local color for your trip!
