Rafting Snake River Wyoming

I am planning on taking one of those short 8-mile whitewater raft trips south of Jackson, Wyoming. can anyone recommend an outfitter? Why might they be better than others?

I am also planning on doing a scenic float trip in the general area, but I have been told it is much more scenic to do it in Grand Teton National Park (instead of south of there). I think only Solitude, Triangle X, Barker-Ewing and Signal Mountain Lodge offer these float trips that are INSIDE the park. Does anyone have any experience with the aboxe-mentioned outfitters? Any help is surely appreciated!

Christee,

Cannot help with whitewater raft trip.
However, 2 years ago, we used Barker-Ewing for scenic float trip (you are correct that this is more scenic in Grand Teton NP). We booked our float trip after we arrived in Jackson and selected a late afternoon trip. It was one of many highlights of our Jackson vacation.
Have a wonderful time!

Last August we used Barker Ewing and found them to be a good experience. We have nothing to compare them to, but enjoyed the trip. The "guide" was fun, had a nice way about him, and overall it was a good experience. I had chosen Barker Ewing based on good reports I had read on this site.

Thanks, Elaine and Kathy, for your suggestions. Kathy, did you do the whitewater or the float trip? Thanks!

We did the whitewater trip which I was really nervous about but once we got into it I was wishing for higher level rapids. We went the end of August and had never done a raft trip before. Supposedly we were in level 2-3 rapids but alot of the trip was floating and rapids in between. Our kids were ages 11, 13 and 15 at the time and we probably could have experienced something rougher but for our first time it was great. For a little excitement I'd recommend the whitewater trip.

Did a white water raft around 1st of July a few years ago. Can't remember name of Co, but was great fun. Lost a member of our group. She got picked up by another raft. Think there were about 3 of us going down together. Then along the way, some kids were cliff jumping and one guy got to far out and started floating downstream. Our guide picked him up because we were coming into shallow waters that would've torn him up. He didn't want to get into our raft, but she navigated us to him and we pulled him into the boat. Even have the video of the worst part of the rapids. So much fun and I was in my late 50's.

For a change of pace, you might also try an evening float in G.T. starting at Moose Junction. It is a great time of day to see wildlife and the guides are very knowledgeable about the area. I'm sure the same companies do them.
