Rafting in Talkeetna

Can anybody recommend a river rafting trip in Talkeetna? A one day trip with some white water would be what I am looking for. If no white water, then something scenic. Thanks.

My opinion only- this is a lame "float trip" area. No white water. There is some white water on the Nenana- depends where they put in.

The Nenana is a fun trip, but if you've done much raftng, it's relatively tame most of the season. BQ is right, Talkeetna is a float. Scenery's nice, but nothing extraordinary.

Here's a more thrilling option:

This company also offers a milder glacier float/hike combo. Haven't done it, but that's wonderful country where they run their trips.

Rafting from Talkeetna won't be whitewater. For whitewater, try either Six Mile River (from Anchorage), the Matanuska River (from Anchorage) with Nova River Runners, or the Nenana River at Denali National Park.

Since you seem interested in Talkeetna, the two main rafting operators in Talkeetna are listed on the alaska.org site on this page:

Please let me know whether this is helpful.

Thanks for the responses. I looked into the Six Mile Creek trip and that looks like it is what I am looking for. We will be going to Seward for part of our trip, so it will fit right in to our itinerary.

Since you're doing Six Mile, definitely opt for the third canyon. They give you the choice of whether to pull out after the 2nd canyon or keep going. If you keep going, you need to do a swim test before you go through the final canyon. The third canyon is alot of fun (and so is the swim test).
