Rafting - Grand Canyon
Hi, I will be in Arizona this summer and I plan to go to the Grand Canyon with 3 others french friends. We would like to do a raft trip down the canyon. Could you tell us what is the best trip in raft to do ? from where to where ? is it possible to live the car somwhere and come back to the same point ? We have 2 or 3 full days. <BR>Thank's alot.

Bruno, unfortunately the trip down "the Grand" is so popular that the number of people the rafting companies can take is limited to lessen the ecological impact. These trips sell out months in advance. There are many companies, one which comes to mind is Western River Expeditions. There are trips of 3 to 14 days. On some you have to hike out or in. Others helicopter you - of course you pay a lot for that luxury. If you can't get on the Grand, try one of the other river trips. They are all fantastic! I did Desolation Canyon, 100 miles in 5 days, on the Green River in Utah. Loved it!

Bruno, also the river companies will get you back to your starting point.

Dayle is correct. But you might check the web sites because there can be last-minute cancellations that might fit your schedule. We have been through the canyon twice in rubber rafts. The first was for 10 days and the second was for five days. The longer trip took us from Lee's Ferry clear down onto Lake Mead. The shorter trip was from Lee's Ferry to past Lava Falls where we were taken out by helicopter. The first trip was with Arizona River Runners and the second was with Hatch. Both were excellent operators, and I would urge you to check to see if they have web sites. It is a magnificent experience, one that should not be rushed. Savor the fact that you are tiny and temporary; the canyon is neither.

Bruno, just remembered that the company I took my trip with also does the Grand Canyon as well as Cataract Canyon, 3 days trip, (Class IV rapids). Moki Mac River Expeditions out of Salt Lake City, Utah.
