Radisson vs. Embassy Is it worth the extra money?
 

Thanks to these message boards, I have narrowed our hotel choices to the Radisson Barcello or the Embassy Suites on 22nd. Our family of four will stay for seven nights. I am looking at $623.00 for the Radisson, $1183.00 for Embassy for the week. Is the hotel location/rm.quality/breakfast etc... really worth the extra money? We do feel nice accomodations are part of the whole experience, so we're not opposed to paying the higher price. Just looking for help fine-tuning our decision. Thanks You!

I'm assuming you mean D.C. but there could be other Radisson Barcelo properties. If so, sorry!

My first reaction was to recommend Embassy because of the suite layour. HOWEVER, Radisson Barcelo DC has large rooms. Large enough for 4? That's a call you have to make but I've stayed 3 times and found the rooms to be HUGE compared to most hotels.

In this case, I'd probably try the Radisson and use the $560 savings at restaurants, attractions, etc. In most other cities, I'd go for Embassy.

The Embassy Suites may have slightly fancier (though smaller) rooms than the Barcelo. The Barcelo definately has better breakfast quality. The Radisson Barcelo is also a slightly better location. P st between 20th & 22nd is packed with some of the best restaurants in the city, including Gabriel - which is at the Barcelo. Don't miss the Sunday Brunch at your hotel.

Johnny's Half Shell - "Don't Miss!"
Moderate. Get a 1/2 a po' boy (lunch only) and some gumbo. Don't skip the gumbo. Reservation needed at dinner (more expensive) but not at lunch. Here's website: http://www.johnnyshalfshell.net

Teaism - 2009 R St. NW Inexpensive. Best breakfast. Also good for lunch.

Brickskeller - 1523 22nd St. NW Inexpensive. Saloon type food, also has ENORMOUS beer selection. Your two sons will be fine here if it's not after 8pm.

Cafe Luna - 1633 P St. NW
Inexpensive - pastas, salads and more.

Carvan Grill - 1825 18th St. NW
Inexpensive - persian

Julia's Empanadas - 1221 Connecticut Ave. NW GREAT!
Very inexpensve.

Cafe Citron - 1343 Connecticut Ave.,
Inexpensive - Bolivian
Don't go at night (crowded nighclub)

Skewers 1633 P St. NW
Inexpensive - Middle Eastern

Bacchus - 1827 Jefferson Pl. NW
Lebonese - Moderate

Go with the Radisson. The hotel itself is more upscale than Embassy Suites (although the rooms are not suites), and you're getting a great rate. I have stayed there twice and can highly reccomend it. I don't know how a hotel like this can keep its rates so low, but take advantage of it while it lasts. The location CANNOT be beat.
