Radio City Christmas Show
DOes anyone know the status of the musicians strike at Radio City Music Hall? I had read that they were using recorded instead of live music and that the Rockettes were honoring their picket line. We're planning on buying advance tickets to the Christmas Show but want the 'Real Thing' !
|
As far as I know, the musicians are still locked out, the rockettes are forced to cross the picket lines based on their contract and the show goes on with recorded music.

I've seen the show at least a dozen times (it never gets old to me).
I saw it two weeks ago during marathon weekend and the musicians were on strike. I could not tell the difference between the pre recorded music and the live music. The pre recorded does not detract from the show. |
Stike just ended. The "real" musicians are now performing.

I'm glad the musicians will be back.
If you've never seen the show, you wouldn't know the difference. But, I think it's thrilling when the orchestra rises from below, moves to the back of the stage, then back again throughout the show, you can see the huge live orchestra.... |
There was a great article in this weekend's NYTimes about the life of a Rockette. It talked about how difficult it is to do 5 shows a day, the injuries they suffer, how they are among the best paid dancers and how they missed the orchestra during the strike because they need it for energy!
|
I read that article too -- it really was a good one. It makes a BIG difference performing with live musicians vs a tape recording, no matter HOW good the recording is.
|
Yippee. so glad they are back. I'm sure we may not have noticed the difference, but I don't want to 'miss' anything. We are off to the Xmas eve show. I am so excited. We leave 4 weeks today, but whos counting. ;)
