Even if Priceline say they offer hotels in a small town, in my experience you are unlikely to get any sort of good deal. I have never had a Priceline bid accepted in a small town. If you bid high enough you might succeed, but I doubt you will really save that much - and to me, it's not worth saving just a little to be locked into a non-refundable, non-changeable hotel reservation. I'm used to saving 40-60% in the bigger cities, though.

How about Roanoke? These are the hotels that BFT reports PL using in the area:
Roanoke - Tanglewood
(Priceline now only offers up to 2* in this zone. It is possible they have now rated the Doubletree as a 2* since they are known to underrate hotels when there is no capacity at the correct quality level.)
4 Star
Doubletree Roanoke Hotel & Conference Center
2 Star
Holiday Inn
1 Star
Rodeway Inn Civic Center
Roanoke North - Airport
3 Star
Wyndham Airport
2.5 Star
Amerisuites
Courtyard Airport
2 Star
Clarion Roanoke Airport
