R5, budman, grasshopper - interested in a mini-GTG this coming weekend in Sonoma County?

Hi, there! R5, budman, grasshopper and other great Fodorites!

Any Fodorites interested in just meeting for a drink this Saturday during the barrel tasting spree in Sonoma County?

grasshopper said something about wearing a red, red rose as ID for a Fodorite.

R5, by "natural section" you should pick the meeting place - it'll have to be Saturday night, the rest of the time will be spent dashing about barrel tasting! Hope to meet up with you all!

easy, haven't finalized our plans as to which wineries/areas we will be tasting in on Saturday. Can't do drinks Saturday night as we have an early flight Sunday morning -- staying near the airport and plan on dinner in SF.

budman: dinner in SF! Mummmm! Great idea!

Sorry that Saturday night will not work out. We're getting started going up north early Saturday morning and will spend the night in wine country.

Nor us. We don't have an itinerary worked out either. It's hard to do; the best barrel tasting is to just drive along and stop when you feel like it.

Have fun! Maybe we'll meet up some other time!

We are still trying to nail down our Lodging for the barrel tasting weekend - Priceline isn't being cooperative this weekend gt;

We have a pretty good idea of the wineries we want to visit and our path, we just need a place to lay our head on at least Saturday Night...We are thinking of going up Friday afternoon, but the weather looks a bit iffy right now for Friday.

easytraveler -- too bad we can't hook up for lunch on Saturday. I'll have a couple bottles of my "stuff."

montyw, I had a hard time on priceline, I guess because of the busy weekend. We're staying Thurs & Fri night, and spending Saturday near the airport. Got the Hyatt in Santa Rosa. Maybe we were lucky.

budman: you really know how to make it difficult!

We'll be at the Doubletree in Rohnert Park for Saturday night, having hemmed and hawed over whether Friday would be a good day or not, guess the weather decided things for us for Friday.

Well, we're starting out early from the South Bay on Saturday, so that we can start drinking - erh, tasting - at 10am, probably at Viansa. Will then work our way up.

Last year, we had "lunch" at Amida (sp?) Vineyards, which had steak and other good free food and wonderful vistas for picnicking. Maybe we could plan on picnicking together somewhere for lunch? Keeping my fingers crossed - you make a good wine, budman!

Montyw: In the past, I've gotten the Marriott in Yountville and the Doubletree in Rohnert Park on Priceline - can't remember the exact prices, but seems to have been somewhere from $55-$65. Good luck to you! Hope we can all meet somehow, somewhere!

Well, cheers, everyone! Here's to Fodors and to barrel tasting!

easy, weather.com shows and upper 60's for Saturday. How about we meet at Armida Winery for a picnic lunch at 12:30. Bring your own lunch (BYOL), and I'll bring the wine. Their website says only to consume their "stuff" on site, but I'm a big sneak. No one will be looking.

Anybody else interested? -- that's the plan. You'll recognize me -- I'll be the thorn between two roses (I'll have two female escorts) and I'll be staggering like Kal. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Let me know by tomorrow. We fly out Thurs AM, and then I'm going into the vegetate state.

budman: You got it! Armida at 12:30pm on Saturday!

BTW, for any other Fodorites that may want to show up, here's Armida's address:

2201 Westside Road, Healdsburg, Ca 95448

If you go to wineroad.com, you can download a map with Armida Winery on it. It's on the Dry Creek map.

budman:If one of the lovelies on your arm will be R5, she and I have already met, so I'll look for R5.

Kal: Please come! If budman staggers one way and you stagger the other, you can prop each other up! LOL!

Sooo looking forward to this!

easy, I mapped it out, and it is only a couple of miles outside of Healdsburg -- we'll pick up our luncheon provisions at Oakville Grocery.

Unfortunately, R5 has a previous commitment and won't be able to join us.

I'll be accompanied by the lovely Mrs. Budman and a dear friend of ours. If you can't recognize me by my stagger/swagger, I'll be the one proudly wearing my Yountville ball cap that was bestowed upon me last year.

Wheeeeeereeee's grasshopper???

Good for you guys. This has to be the fastest GTG ever planned. Those of us attending the SoFL GTG in Pompano later that day will drink us toast to you with our Budman select. Thanks again Budman for your generosity.

JulieV- Take a lot of pics for us Left Coasters!

Budman-Along with your ball hat, remember to wear your shorts, Hawaiian shirt, tennis shoes and carry a man-bag, too!
No wait...They may think you're me and you'd get arrested.

Mention my name...they'll give you the cell w/ a view.

Speaking of a Sonoma/Napa GTG, anyone see last night's finale of NYPD Blue?
Thank goodness for VCRs.

R5: So very very sorry you will not make it on Saturday. Somehow rumor had it that you and budman were going the rounds of the wineries together.

budman: I'll look for swaggering man in a Yountville cap! My baseball hat is white with a label saying "La Tour France". We'll pick up our supplies at the Sonoma Market, which has a wonderful selection of local cheeses. However, if Armida puts out the kind of spread they did last year, we wouldn't need much in terms of dining supplies.

Julie: Way to go! Let's toast coast-to-coast! Someone sent me this really funny joke, but it's appropriate only for Left Coasters.

Kal: please do come! What's it going to be like without a flashy Hawaiian shirt atop shorts in the crowd?????

Monty? Grasshopper? Anyone else for a glorious weekend out in wine country?

I am not sure if we can make it to Armida by 12:30 - we are currently leaving Santa Cruz about 10:30 AM on Saturday and that would require a CHP escort...

However, we are still looking at the weather to see if we want to leave work early on Friday and make it a longer weekend - then we might be able to make it!

I gotta be AWOL for a few hours: have to cook hors d'oeuvres for a gathering tonight, so here goes:

budman: Have a safe trip! We need you to arrive upright, so you can teeter over after visiting the fifth winery.

monty: we will probably still be there around 1:30p, if you can just drop by and say hi. Otherwise, we're having another GTG soon at my house, so hope to see you then!

Cheers all!
