sorry, yeah, shoulda put a link to the columbarium <http://www.sanfranciscoreader.com/es...arium.html>
FainaAgain is right, not morbid or anything. it's a place where the remains in urns are displayed. but the lenghts the families go to honor the deceased in these little glass enclosed boxes are creative and revealing. 'nother 'quirky' thing: Hurricane Bar at the Tonga Room in the Fairmont hotel. Just fun & cheesy <http://tinyurl.com/8s1d> |
Tonga Room - don't go before 8 pm, this is when the thunderstorm starts. Don't get wet :)
City Hall has free tours, they take you inside, the stupidvisors' room has nice carvings. Chef - Stockton instead of Powell? You meant Stockton instead of Grant? |
Don't go to Maiden Lane on a Sunday as all the restaurants are closed.
|
Well, I made a big mistake. Maiden Lane restaurants are OPEN on Sunday but the restaurants on BELDEN Lane are closed on Sunday. Sorry.

Check out this Web site: www.sanfranciscophotos.net. It's by a local resident and has a variety of things to learn about. It's fairly new and your post was a long time ago, but maybe you'll still be interested. It's fun, off beat and conitnuing to expand. Let me know what you think.
I hope this was helpful. |
Have a fresh Canoli at Stella Pasticceria @ 446 Columbus: hope it's still there as that'll be our first stop in March.

You want quirky?
Have you heard of the bush man? This guy hangs out on the main street by the water in San Fransisco. He is holding a couple of branches in front of him, and jumps out at unsuspecting tourists. This sounds stupid and it is--but draws quite a crowd. Also actually quite funny - most people are so busy looking at the scenery they dont even notice a couple of random tree limbs standing up on the sidewalk or the huge crowd watching them....he really gives them a scare. |
Tagging for visitors from the East.

Cinderella Bakery and Restaurant on Balboa and 6th. It has been there for over 50 years and serves yummy Russian food and desserts.

Ooooh, I found another quirky point!
There is a guy Harry Aleo who has his real estate office on 24th @ Castro, Noe Valley area of the city, 4072 24th street. He is a republican, what is very unusual in San Francisco, and his office's windows are a real treat to see! For example, he explains how the "liberals" got into the city using an overblown copy of a SF newspaper article "aliens landed in SF". No obsenity, the language is "clean" but very offensive to those who don't support his political views. The surrounding area is so nice, so homey, families with babies in strollers! Don't see them in the downtown area. Lots of shopping and eating around. They must put this address in every tourist booklet, he's so funny that guy! |
