quiet time???

My fiance and I are planning on getting married in New Orleans. We are really looking for a time of year (preferrably sometime in late April or anytime in May)when we could go and it wouldn't be so crazy. We aren't really looking for the party, just the romaticism of this area.

Thanks

Hi Kristin, and congratulations.

Summer is the slow season. Unfortunately, it's also hot. I'd go for May, just before Mem Day.

I've found that the crowds aren't too bad in mid April and the weather's very pleasant.

Most of the "party" is concentrated in the French Quarter. Stay outside of the Quarter, visit it if you like, and spend more time in places like the Garden District.

Late March and early April should be perfect. Azaleas will be in bloom. Watch the end of April and first of May - Jazz Fest with lots of tourists. Also check dates next year for Mardi Gras and Easter. Carnival is much later next year than this past year.

Kristin, congratulations! We were there the week after Mardi Gras and it was relatively quiet. The weather was great too, not too hot. Consider late February/early March. Definitely stay in the Quarter, but not on Bourbon in the heart of the revelry. We didn't stay there but the Cornstalk B&B looked pretty nice, as did Lafitte's Guest House. We saw a lovely wedding taking place in Jackson Square, and afterward the bride and groom climbed into a horse-drawn carriage. Good luck!
