Quiet Art Deco Hotel in Miami?

We are interested in staying at one of the art deco hotels in the art deco district of S. Miami, but are not interested in noise and partying. It is a stopover on the way to Trinidad and Tobago and since we have to stop there we thought we would check out the art deco. We want to spend less than $200/night but want something clean, safe, and preferably, not noisy and away from the "action" if possible.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you want away from the action, then do NOT stay anywhere on Ocean Drive. That is where most of the famous Art Deco hotels are, but it is also where most of the noise is.

My recommendation would be the Astor Hotel on Washington. Bearing in mind that in South Beach, you're going to get noise and partying anywhere, this is not on the main drag, and is a gorgeous sample of Art Deco architecture, plus the lowest price rooms are $160/night.

definitely check out island outpost hotels (islandoutpost.com).
the have several hotels in south beach (as well as Jamaica and Bahamas), with various prices. they were talked about on Good Morning America today. all great properties.

We stayed at Hilton Grand Vacations at SB, was quite nice. It consists of 3 3-story art deco buildings on Ocean Drive, within walking distance to everything. Check them out at quickbook.com. Also, check out the posts on SB this site.

My wife and I stayed at Days Inn right on 21st & Collins Avenue (Art Deco/Beach Front) in South Beach. Very quiet and clean. I think we paid around $120/night for a queen-size bed room back in April 2001.

I agree with the post not to stay anywhere on Ocean Drive. It is very noisy. I stayed at the Hotel Astor (which is about three blocks from the beach) about three months ago, and while the lobby and restaurant were nice, the room was just ok. Very small and in need of a little refurb.

We stayed at the South Seas hotel at 17th and Collins which is away from the action but within a 10 minute walk. South Seas is a nice hotel and moderately priced but nothing fancy. The best thing about it is that its ocean front.
