Quiet areas of Santa Fe
 

Calling all Santa Fe experts! I may be looking for the impossible. We want to stay in an area of Santa Fe that is close enough to restaurants and downtown but is quiet at night - we like to sleep with windows open which makes staying in cities a challenge!

Do you have any ideas on this? The hotels/B&Bs we like the look of are Inn of Five Graces and El Farolito but we cannot find much about the areas they are in. Or any other suggestions?

Any input gratefully received.

We stayed at a Marriott Residence Inn. It seemed to be 'out' of town, but was about 15-20 minutes from downtown in a car.

I wonder if Bishops Lodge would fit the bill...

Five Graces is on a quiet side street, but it is close to some restaurants and bars that could be a little noisy at night. Still, I wouldn't let that little niggly keep you from staying there. All things considered, it would be my #1 choice in town.

We stayed at El Farolito two years ago, and loved it. It's in a quiet neighborhood, just a 5-10 minute walk from the plaza. Some of the homes/buildings on the block don't appear too well maintained, but we never felt unsafe walking to and from the inn at night.

You might also look at Inn on the Alameda, particularly one of their casitas.

Good to see that someone recommended Inn on the Alameda. Several years ago, my sister and I checked out all the hotels in Santa Fe for my parents who were coming to visit her. Inn on the alameda was the one we choose. Quiet, clean, i remember a nightly happy hour. They may have even had break fast. Not on the square like La Fonda. Not overrun like some of the other hotels.
My parents very much liked it.

Inn on the Alameda is where we stayed last fall. And you're right, both about the afternoon wine & cheese reception/happy hour and the excellent breakfasts. Paseo de Peralta is a busy street, but most rooms are far enough from it that noise shouldn't be an issue.

My husband and I found a hidden gem a few years back and from the reviews on tripadvisor it's still going strong. It is a B & B called Dos Casas Viejas. Private Casitas, within walking distance to town but in a quiet neighborhood. Check it out and have fun!

Check out the Hotel Santa Fe. It is within moderate walking distance of downtown and even closer to the Guadalupe district, which is getting more shops and restaurants. The hotel even will provide free shuttle service to and from downtown restaurants.
We liked our room and it was pretty quiet, except one night when rowdy guests returned from a wedding.

We liked Inn on the Alameda a lot, it's walking distance to the Plaza and Canyon Road, but we found it to be very quiet. Our room was towards the back of the hotel, and while we didn't open our windows, I think you could and not be disturbed.

We stayed at the Hotel Santa Fe for a couple of nights this summer. It's about 6 easy blocks from the square, and closer to the newly-developing "railroad" district. Small but nice pool. Smallish, but comfortable room. Quiet. We found a great lunch place a couple of blocks away, on the way to the square (Cafe Dominic, I think was the name). I loved the shuttle - when we got the top of Canyon Road on a 100-degree day, we called and they picked us up.

I would stay at Five Graces. We haven't had a problem there ever! There are restaurants nearby but I can't imagine you hearing them at night and its not a crazy area anyway. A top lodging choice for Santa Fe.

Alameda is nice. My only concern would be the weekend traffic of high schoolers and their "thump thump thump" music. But I have to say I haven't heard anything negative on this board about them.

El Farolito is quiet as well. Can't lose with those three choices.

Stayed at the Inn of the Alameda a year ago and loved it. I'd just be very clear when booking that you want a quiet room. I remember a few casitas's being on the corner of the property and remarking that the window to that room would be in a noisy location. We stayed in a deluxe room(not a casita) second story and our balcony was sort of in the trees--I loved it and it was not noisy at all. We slept with our balcony door open--no problem.
