Will you have a car or are you looking for public transportation?

We rented a car so we will be driving the car from the airport to the hotel with our two toddlers and luggage.

If you are renting a car what is the question? Route???? Plug it into Goggle map and follow the directions.

As you exit the airport, follow the signage to I-95 NORTH (it will say "Philadelphia"). Continue north on I-95 past the exits for Penrose Avenue, for Broad Street, and for I-76. Eventually you'll see that you need to get into the left-hand lanes for "676" and "30" (the former is an interstate, the latter is a US highway), as well as "Central Phila; Independence Hall; Callowhill St". Get on I-676, and you have no choice but to head west, towards the skyscrapers.
Expect traffic & crazy drivers as you get to the exit for "PA 611; Broad Street; Central Phila" -- the exit requires that you get to the far right lane. After your leave the expressway, you'll be heading south on 15th Street -- just stay on this street, ignoring the sign to get into the left lane for "Broad Street."
You'll hit more traffic & crazier drivers as you go past City Hall (it'll be on your left), simply stay as far right as you can. The street after City Hall is "Chestnut," the one after that -- "Walnut" -- is the one you'll want to turn on. It's a one-way street, so you'll have no choice but to turn right. In three blocks you'll be at Rittenhouse Square.

I still recommend that you take a taxi from the airport to downtown; you'll save money (it's an absolute flat rate), time, and a LOT of aggravation.

Just make certain the dispatcher is aware of the amount of your luggage. You can pay the cab fare & the tip (be generous if the cabbie helps with your luggage!) with almost any credit card. Once at Rittenhouse Square, you will NOT need a car to see the sights of Philly.

No taxi (or Uber) will have TWO carseats for toddlers (finding one with one is hard enough), so I think that alternative is out of the question for the OP.

According to her other post the family is looking forward to taking taxi's in NYC, so it's definitely still a valid option.

It does sound like they are from a car centric culture and are dead set on driving from Philadelphia to NYC even if it means getting stuck in mid town traffic around Drumpf tower.
