Quick Trip from CO Springs - Taos or Santa Fe

I'll be in Colorado Springs for a work convention for a few days this fall 08 and would like to extend the trip for a nice, relaxing getaway w/ my husband for a couple/few days. We're thinking about driving from CO Springs to New Mexico -- where would be the best spot to relax/enjoy scenery/hike/eat for 2 or 3 days -- Taos or Santa Fe? Looks like Santa Fe may have more to offer...but would like input. Thanks!!!

I'd vote for Taos. It's beautiful, laid back and there's some good hiking and scenery and lots of nice places to stay and to eat. And if you feel like it, you can always drive to Santa Fe for a day and come back - I think it's only about 60-90 minutes away. We spent our honeymoon in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos, and have gone back to Taos several times, but never to Alb or Santa Fe. I'm trying to recall how long the drive was from Denver/Colorado Springs - I want to say about 6 hours? Maybe I'm overestimating though.

We enjoyed Taos too for a long weekend. Casa de las Chimeneas was a great place to stay. We loved it!

Drive over the La Veta Pass through San Luis, then down through Questa.
Don't miss breakfast at the Taos Inn.
