Quick Reply needed please - San Francisco fish restaurant for tonight

Hoping some foodies are hanging out on the board.

We've been in SF for 4 days and have eaten until we can;t eat anymore.

Tonight we feel like plain grilled fresh fish/seafood.

Nothing heavy - a nice light dinner with wine would be great.

It's now 4 pm on Wednesday - hoping I can have a suggestion or more in the next couple of hours!!!

My stomach thanks you!

Hayes Street Grill comes to mind on Hayes between Gough and Franklin.

I'm no big SF expert, but we enjoyed this place on the wharf.

Well to me the best seafood in SF is at Farallon, but that sounds like a little more than you want to do tonight. Fish is wonderful at Tadich Grill and maybe more simple like what you have in mind. Or perhaps the best for what you describe is Hayes Street Grill -- which I really love.
Still too fancy? How about Swan Oyster Depot on Polk Street -- kind of "slumming it" but great seafood?

FYI I believe that Hayes Street Grill may have a 3 course $25 prix fix after 7:30 pm M-Th.

Tadich's

Sam's (similar to Tadich, located at the Bush St. entrance to Belden Place)

B-44 (Catalan rest. on Belden, serves good seafood and individual paellas)

Zuni (Market near Gough - go for a plate of oysters, some wine, perhaps a light dessert)

Donnapg, please post a message about tonight's meals and all the others on your trip! Have fun tonight.

We ate at Zuni Cafe on our trip to SF last year, and all agreed it was good. I can't remember what the rest of my family had, but I had the halibut cheeks, which my kids swore the waiter pronounced "hali-BUTT CHEEKS". :) The higlight of the meal, however, was the creme brulee.

Sorry I couldn;t get back sooner but the hotel internet went down, and then we went to Coloma for 2 days where there is NO net access or even cell service.

We went to Hyde Street Grill and had an excellent dinner - just what we wanted - thanks so much!

Other meals in SF were:
Puccini & Pinetti by Union Square - EXCELLENT Italian food!

Steps of Rome in North Beach - felt like we were eating in italy again.

Sanraku - Sutter & taylor on Nob Hill for excellent Sushi

Hard Rock Cafe at Pier 39 - for the kids!

Sears Fine Foods on Powell in Union Square - Excellent breakfast. get there before 9 or the line is down the block.

Full trip report being posted now!

Thanks. It is so discouraging when some of us knock ourselves out to think of these things and post, but never hear back. Thanks for the report.

Glad you enjoyed Hayes Street Grill, and I'm looking forward to the full report.

I thought I had read that Sears had closed?

dovima Aug 30th, 2004 11:05 AM

hpl,
Sears was saved in the 11th hour by a new investor/owner. I believe the emphasis so far has been on keeping things just about the same. I mean, why mess with a winning formual?
