One Day in Boston...
My husband and I along with our two kids (ages 10 and 8) and my mother-in-law will have one day in Boston after spending a few days in Bar Harbor. Any ideas on how to make the most of our time in Boston? We are currently thinking Freedom Trail, Tea Party Museum, maybe a harbor cruise. Trying to do as much as we can without piling on too much given the wide age range of our group. Any thoughts on the city passes or the hop on/off trolley tours? Are they worth it? Thanks for any suggestions!

Physically, Boston is small, which means if mominlaw is ambulatory, you can cover a decent territory/notable-site ratio in a day.
It's also pretty congested. Doubting that a HOHO would be good for much other than getting stuck in traffic a lot.

Good advice from BigRuss. If history is your passion, I'd walk the Freedom Trail. If you prefer art museums, a visit to the Gardner Museum and MFA is the choice to make.
My understanding is that the Tea Party Museum is underwhelming as well as a good bit out of the way from the Freedom Trail, but can't say from experience.

Have you thought about taking a Duck Tour Boat? Some of the drivers are great, very informative, others not so much according to some reviews. Still, I've gone a couple of times and the kids and I enjoyed ourselves! See if groupon is offering a discounted rate.

I would definitely recommend a Duck Boat Tour. I am originally from Boston and was there in June visiting family. I had never taken a Duck Boat tour but took one while I was there. It was very informative (learned so many new things about Boston) and so much fun.
