Questions on Drive from Chicago to Madison/Milwaukee/Green Bay

We would like to go these destinations from Chicago. Say we have four days --Can someone tell me how to make the best use of our time, i.e. which destintion is better as a day trip and which place is better to stay overnight, using Chicago as our "home travel base." Help on an itinerary would be great!!

What are you interested in doing? To see these cities I'd suggest Milwaukee--Madison--Green Bay or Milwaukee--Green Bay--Madison. The drive from Milwaukee to Madison is about 2 hours. Milwaukee to Green Bay about
3 hours. Madison to Green Bay about
3 hours. Drive times are very aprox. since it really depends on where you start and end in each city and the time of day. Almost forgot--Chicago to Milwaukee about an hour.

Some of the times the previous poster gave are extremely inacurate. Madison to Milwaukee is 1 hour and Madison to Green Bay is 4 hours. I would concentrate on Milwaukee and Madison as they would have the most to offer. Green Bay is a rather boring industial town; but just north or there is Door County which has lots to see.

I would try Mil, 2 nights, Green Bay/Door County 2 nights, and Madison 1 Night. Madison is probably my favorite destination of the three, great college town with a atmosphere all its own, but is more compact so you can probably see more in one day.

What do you wish to do/see in each place? That will help with time frames and suggested order.

My In-laws live in Green Bay, & we drive from Chicago area (northwest suburbs) to Green Bay (De Pere) alot. It takes us about 3 1/2 - 4 hrs drive time, depending upon trafic. It is about 210 miles for us. It takes us about 2 hours to get to Milwaukee. It takes about 1 1/2 - 2 hours to get to Madison. If you can get to Madison on A Saturday morning - the Farmers Market on the Square is fantastic, Can also go thru the State Capitol building. The Wisconsin State Fair is in West Allis (Milwaukee area suburb) August 1-11. It is a really good state fair. Some things in Green Bay - Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame (Packers start playing pre-season games in August, may want to find a schedule to see if they will be in town.) Heritage Hill is a park that has all sorts of historical settlement types of buildings in it that were moved from other areas to here. Door County is about an hour or so away. Manitowoc - between Milwaukee & Green Bay has a maritime museum with a submarine to visit there. Make sure you stop along the way some where & get some Wisconsin cheese & brats.

As I noted in my above post--drive times are aprox. Distances are: Milwaukee to Madison 75 miles on interstate. Madison to Green Bay 132 miles (some interstate type hwy.) and Milwaukee to Green Bay 112 miles all interstate.

Forgot to mention that there is also a very nice indian casino (Oneida - has slot machines, blackjack tables, & bingo) across from the airport in Green Bay. But since the casino came into existance, that has influenced the hotel prices to go up alittle bit. Also if the Packers are playing a game in town, even in the preseason, it may be difficult to get a room. To check for more thing to do in Green Bay area, go to http://www.greenbay.com/ .
One of the many websites for Madison is:
