Questions about Eastern Market in DC

We are planning a trip for this week and would like to visit Eastern Market on Saturday (4/19). From the web site it appears that most stalls do not open until 10, with the exception of food items. Is this usually the case? Are there any early birds with antiques/collectables? If it rains will there be any point in going? We do plan to eat at Market Lunch. Finally, my teenagers want to know if there will be any sellers of knock-offs? Thanks in advance.

From memory (not having been in about 3 years), some of the antiques/crafts peole will be set up and will start selling eaarlier, maybe around 9 at the earliest. These people set up stalls outside the brick building that houses the meat, fish market and Market Lunch. Part of this outdoor area is covered, so if it rains, they will still be there. There are also flower and vegetable sellers in this area, and they start pretty early.

Can't tell if you are going for lunch or breakfast, Market Lunch opens at 7:30 am or so and early and sells fantastic eggs, pancakes and French toast (or Freedom Toast if you prefer....) Of course their crab cakes are fantasitc, and if you can stand them for breafast you could have them as well. Also, there is a great Jewish bakery inside the market which sells Hammestaschin.

what kind of knock-offs are you looking for ?
There's a kate spade knock-off trolley at the Foggy Bottom metro station, and plenty of other little knock-off stands on K Stree t.

There's a used clothing store with very high end fashion items for your teens ( I forget the name). Plan on having a wonderfuil time. In addition to the antique store and the artist' stalls all around the market, don't miss the open air market directly across 7th st from the market - open Saturdays. Also, while there are many restaurants in the Eastern Market area, why not go for the best DC has to offer? Make a reservation for the Montmartre restaurant while you are in the neighborhood: http://www.washingtonian.com/dining/...uary_2002.html

Thanks so much for all of the informative responses. This is our last day in DC and we will be leaving for home after a bit of shopping at the market. One of my girls is looking specifically for a LV backback purse knock-off so if anyone has seen one of these-please share the location. We do have several special meals planned- thanks to this board.
