Questions about Awahnee Dining Room
 

We will be in Yosemite the first week of May. What are the current price ranges like for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Awahanee Dining room? Are reservations necessary at any of those meal times? Is there a dress code for dinner?

We thought the Sunday brunch there was good. It was priced in the same way you would expect any nice brunch to be priced at.
Yes, reservations were very necessary. When I checked in, I noticed that a couple of parties were given very lengthy wait times or turned away. You might not have a problem at breakfast or lunch during the week, but I suspect that the brunch and dinner would always require a reservation in order to be seated in a reasonable amount of time(if at all). Take a look at the menu, because to me it seems that lunch is much more of a bargain than dinner. We didn't eat at the Yosemite Lodge, but their dinner menu looks good too. We did eat at meal at the Wawonna and found it to be good. The little pizza place in the valley has very good pizza.

That is true IME (3 lunches and 3 or 4 dinners over the years). Though 'bargain' is a relative term at the Ahwahnee :) ).

I like lunch - but dinner is very special.

Sitting next to my PC, I have a picture of me & my wife at the Ahwahnee for dinner. I was wearing a long sleeve dress shirt. In the background others are dressed the same. This was last year in April.

What I remember at the Ahwahnee is the view. I'm sure the food was good but I remember the dining room and the view, so I would go anytime it is light outside.

Dining at the Ahwahnee is a very good, albeit - expensive outing. As suggested - you might also consider dining at the Yo Lodge Mountain Room - which has a great view of Yo Falls.

We have had breakfast and lunch at the Ahwahnee a number of times, all without reservations. We did have a bit of a wait for breakfast on two occasions. Apparently 9 a.m. is the magic hour when everyone shows up and tables fill up quickly. It is a bit expensive, but well worth the experience IMO. You can dress more casually for breakfast and lunch.

It's a nice place to dine during the day, and dress code is very casual. The day, because you can look out all the windows. At night, you have zero view.

At night, for a restaurant, I like the Mountain Room at Yosemite Lodge (when I'm not going for "pizza night" at Curry Village). Food there is, IMO, better than the Ahwahnee dining room.

If the weather is chilly, and you want some good soup, my recollection is that the bar at the Ahwahnee makes some steller soup -- their leek and potato is really something!

That depends upon how late at night. Early evening/dusk in the Valley is magical and you can still see outside.

And the room is lovely all candlelit. I actually prefer the Ahwahnee to the Mountain Room for dinner. Though the MR is pretty good too.

Clicked on this because the Bracebridge dinner at the Ahwahnee is on the bucket list.

Oh, nothing like a sunday brunch at the awahnee. Just lovely. Especially if you are staying in a camp curry tent cabin. Probably the only restaurant in the Sierras where i would dare to ear oysters. Put some time aside, if possible for a leisurely time. The staff are lovely in the dining hall, too. My kids loved it, too. Aaaaahhhhhhh. Reservations are a must for sunday brunch.
