Question on Arlington Cemetary and Metro
 

How far away from the metro station is Arlington Cemetary? If we choose to do this on our own and get off at that point is it a long walk... will we need a taxi to get to the entrance so we can purchase trolley tickets?

The metro station for Arlington Cemetery is within immediate walking distance of the Visitors Center, perhaps 5 minutes or so and maybe a bit more if there are some mobility issues. Walk along Memorial Drive to the Visitor's Center where you can purchase tickets to for the Tourmobile.

Thanks for replying. We've decided to visit Arlington and just take the trolley instead of taking a guided tour from town. Glad to hear it isn't a long walk to the entrance.

SGF: it is Tourmoblie inside Arlington Cemetery, not a trolley. You'll have no trouble finding it once you enter the grounds -- it is definitely the best way to cover all the high points in the vast and hilly cemetrey.

I concur with the others: one you exit the Metro at Arlington, it is actually quite a short walk to the cemetary. I was amazed it was so close.

The tourmobile is really the way to do it. You don't get to see all of the cemetary, but that is nearly impossible anyway. The tourmobile allows you to see the highlights, and if you wish to stroll around afterwards, you can. Though, even with a map in hand, it looked like most people were lost!

For me, it was a very moving experience. Especially the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - I left in tears. I hope you enjoy your visit!
