Question for Seattlites Regarding Drive to Airport

Hello Seattlites!

I'm departing Friday evening on an 8:39 p.m. overnight flight to Miami (Christmas cruise on Sunday!!). I was thinking I should get to the airport parking garage around 6:00 since I'm expecting lines at the airport to be somewhat of a nuisance during the start of the holiday weekend.

Given that I'll be driving during rush hour...does anyone have a best *guess* of how much time I should allow for a drive from Fremont area to SeaTac? I've only done it once...and in reverse...so I'm not a good judge of the time yet.

Thanks!!

If it were me, I'd go REALLY early -- like before rush hour starts -- and plan to have dinner somewhere near the airport. South Center Mall is close by, too, in case you have any last minute items to pick up.

I'd give it 40 min. and I'd definitely use 99, not I-5. If you're parking in the airport garage, I'd allow extra time for circling to find a space. Have you considered a cab or Shuttle Express or using an off-airport parking facility instead?

USAir (assume you're going SEA-LAS-MIA) uses the "A" concourse, and lines are usually not that bad for that concourse as most of the Delta and AA flights that use A have left earlier in the day, or else you're early for the midnight east coast redeyes on Delta or JetBlue.

hi beanweb,
Well, if it were me, I'd opt for the shuttle. Much easier than dealing with traffic both ways.

Happy holidays!

I park at ShuttlePark 2 when I leave my car. It is easy to find and the service is excellent. They pick you up at your car when you go; pick you up in a clearly marked spot on returning; and drop you off right at your car. They are very fast in all directions. I believe you can make reservations. Check out their website:

You can clip the coupon for the internet rate, but I believe they also have a AAA rate which is cheaper or the same. Compare this to the shuttle cost.

Thanks everyone for the info. Based on the responses I'll probably give it about 45 minutes. Appreciate the tip on 99 versus 5.

I'm opting to drive versus shuttle because I can't park my car in my garage (too many moving boxes!) and am not comfortable leaving my car unattended outside for 10 days. I am going to give Masterpark a shot - good rates and recommended by some folks at work.

Orcas, I love Seattle! I already feel at home in my new town. Had a great time when my parents visited, and they loved it so much they're thinking about a move here too.

Be sure to book ahead for any off-airport lot. You may be (unpleasantly) surprised. Note that several of the hotels across the highway from the airport offer parking and free shuttles.

Thank you, Gardyloo. I made a reservation and got my confirmation for MasterPark.

Hi EasyTraveler! I'm headed to the Caribbean...it's a quest for sunshine. Merry Christmas to you too!
