Question for Dusty re: Luau

Dusty, what have you heard about the lu'au put on by the Kaumakapili Church of Christ on King Street in Honolulu. Got some "inside information" from former resident that this is a great celebration and has been put on for 35 years. Many years ago I went to church luau and it was awesome. In general would you say that the public, especially mainlander toursits would be welcome? The food is supposed to be very authentic and spectacular. Price is $25/person

Dusty, where are you????

I don't know anything about this luau or the church. I am not a church goer & don't usually partake in any church events.

But, I am sure it is a good luau, with decent entertainment & great food. Usually the annual luaus like this one have great food.

Here is a link to the event:

Any lu`au hosted by any island church/school/canoe club/halau hula is the "real deal". These are lu`au for locals -- no flashy production dancing as staged for visitors at island hotels and resorts.

You can count on good food (and plenty of it!) and very "backyard style" music and dance. Have a great time! 8-)

I have gone to this church's luau several times. Very good food, good dancing (the kids and adults). Parking can be difficult, so go a bit early to find some.

Excellent choice. This is the real thing. What's the date this year?

It's Saturday, July 15, 2006.

AuntieMaria, you said this type of lu'au is for locals, how welcome are tourists at this type of event?

dusty56438 Jun 21st, 2006 12:14 PM

Tourists are welcome to these events. But,very few tourists ever know about these events, so you may be one of few.

For the most part everyone else there will know each other. If that doesn't bother you, then go for it.
