question about travel to Hawaii in the Spring
 

I'd really like to organize my husband and my 2 week trip to Hawaii. When it is the least crowded time( spring break and all)When is the best time to go to Hawaii in the spring(April or May)

Also what is the temp inthe spring

Temperatures are nice.

Don't go during Spring Break ( which is usually before an after Easter)

I would reword that: <i>Because</i> I am a retired teacher.... LOL!!

Late April and into May prices were a little better but with the economy right now it's hard to say.

I think we will be going at the beginning of May.

Don't let spring break affect your plans.

Hawaii does get more tourists during spring break, but not enough more to make any difference.

If you want to see whales, you should go in March or early April. By the end of April, they are gone.

Also around mid-April is the end of winter season. So waterfalls will start drying up by the end of April.

If we went in the beginning of February are the whales out?

Whales are out in all their glory in February. Lots more breaching than spying or doing a tail waive.

The latter part of April, May, and the beginning of December are historicall the least expensive times to travel but, like hulajake said, all bets seem to be off right now and the air is around $700 from the West Coast.

Anyway, one never knows about the weather but, generally, you should expect sunny skies and swaying palm trees. Lucky you!

Regarding whales: We will be on the island of Oahu the month of Feb. Originally we had rented on the west side of the island, but Dusty, after reading and printing out your wonderful post, and researching all areas, have now rented on the ocean in Punaluu. Will we be able to see whales offshore from the northeast side of the island? From what I've read, it seems they are more prevelent around Maui.

My husband and I have been to the islands in spring a few times. You didn't mention what island you are going to...that makes a difference. We love Maui in the spring; by mid-April, there are not too many whales left...go earlier if that is what you want. We just booked to Maui in October; $466 RT per person on Hawaiian.

Air right now is starting at about $500 RT for Spring, but it would traditionally be too early to buy now for those dates. Watch for the next set of airfare deals, which likely will be for dates well into 2009, as were the last deals. Those were $300 from the west coast, RT, all-inclusive.

I had the same thought as dusty!!

Now, if you don't stay in an area that has many whales to see, I'd recommend a whale watch tour with Star of Honolulu (www.paradise cruises.com). I have lived in Hawaii all my life and never got to see a whale in person till I did this, last year. Here's my report, with photos:
