Question about Seattle weather and packing
We are headed for Seattle next week for about 10 days. We've been watching the temps and they seem to be climbing up this week. We're staying on the campus of a college in Tacoma and have recently been told the rooms are not airconditioned. Conference organizers said that, about every three years, temps climb into the 90's and offered a fan rental. Needless to say, we booked the fans. I am now wondering if the temps will sink back to the 70's in the evenings if it does get up to 90, and if it stays humid. Will we even need a sweater?

It cooled off today, but it will warm up later in the week. It is always wise to have clothes to layer in case the weather changes. A light jacket is more practical than a sweater.
Very few homes have AC here. |
The weather's been gorgeous here! Sunny and warm. As above, I don't know a single person who has A/C at home. I haven't worn a sweater for months now. It is not humid.

It can get quite hot here and the fans are a good idea. The heat is generally dry. It always cools off a lot at night, often into the sixties, sometimes into the fifties, but you will need the fans to bring in the cool air. Plus, they have the added benefit of providing white noise, which can be useful in a dorm.
And yes, bring a light jacket, sweater or sweat shirt for evening walks along the water, where it is generally cooler. |
I can't imagine living without AC, probably because anytime we go anywhere with a moderate climate, that is the year of 90+ temperatures. We were looking forward to cooling off from the intense heat of middle Georgia, but in Utah, our first stop this week, it is above 90 every day and not cooling to its usual level at night.
Thanks for the suggestions! Glad to know Seattle will at least be cooler in the evenings. |
Boy oh boy was I wrong! Bring that sweater; it really cooled off last evening for the first time in quite awhile. It's still gorgeous, sunny, and clear but way cooler than the weekend (Tues AM from Capitol Hill in Seattle).

Suze, thanks for the update! I really appreciate it, as I had already packed and stopped checking the weather. :)
