Question About Seating in the Imperial Theater NYC
 

DS2 and I are going to NYC next month for a few days to look at schools. While we're there I'd like us to see Billy Elliot but tickets anywhere except the rear mezzanine are very expensive (after fees, about $300 each). The "nosebleed" seats are much less at around $150, but I'm afraid we won't be able to see much.

Has anyone sat in the rear mezzanine of the Imperial and can weigh in with an opinion? I'd really like to see the show, but not if we won't be able to see without opera glasses. We'd be going primarily for the dancing and not the music.

I sat in front mezzanine in the second row and my complaint was NO leg room. The pitch of the rows is such that your knees are in the neck of the person in front of you. I don't know if it is the same, better or worse further back. I paid less than $150 for front mezz and would personally not consider spending that much to sit in the nosebleed section.

In September 1964 I paid $2.90 for a seat in the last row of the balcony to watch Zero Mostel in Fiddler On The Roof. It was a great show, and I enjoyed every moment of it. A few weeks later I sat in row O of orchestra for less than $10. I enjoyed the show all over again.

If you sat there and waited for Billy Eliot you would have saved a lot of money.

McLaurie, I have been checking resellers and their prices are all over the place. Craigslist tickets aren't any cheaper or better. There are two seats in the left orchestra section, row J, 21 and 22 (or 23) available but they are "partial view." That could mean anything from just difficulty viewing from that angle to sitting behind a structural column. DS2 did that in London for Phantom, but that show is all about the music. This one we actually need to see, lol.

Anyone sat in Row J of left orchestra in the middle twenties seats?

Why are you checking resellers? Aren't there any seats thru telecharge? If not, have you tried applause-tickets.com or the sold out section on broadwaybox.com ?

kswl - I saw Billy Elliot six weeks ago and just checked where we sat. Six seats Orch Row H 10-16. They were fine. Granted, I sat in seat 10, but the friend who was in seat 16 didn't complain. I remember when I bought them online thinking that they weren't so good, but they were definitely ok.

I wouldn't buy anything with 'partial view' at any price and I would be very wary of resellers and counterfeit tickets. Could you call the theater and find out if they release house seats last minute? Or come up with a second choice.

Your problem is the show is a hit and sold out. You're looking at prices from scalpers - the only ones left with good seats.

If you're willing to take a chance you can go to the box office in the am to see if they have an unused house seats for sale - may have none, may have a few.

If you really want to see the show then pay the scalpers price for good seat.
