Question about North Kauai
We are wanting to spend a day of our Sept Kauai vacation exploring/enjoying the beaches on the north shore (Stay in Secret Beach Area) Queens Bath, Tunnels, Lumaha'i, Ke'e. We also want to watch the sunset at Ke'e beach that evening (sun sets near 7pm in Sept). We'd kind of prefer to go back to the cottage to wash up before going back to Ke'e to watch the sunset and then eat dinner at Neide's.
How long is the drive (timewise) from Kilauea to Ke'e? Will we have trouble finding a place to park at Ke'e if we get there at 6:30? Neide's - Good place for dinner? Anywhere to go for drinks and local music in the evening. Doesn't have to be upscale - just good drinks and a fun time? |
Unsure about travel time that time of year but plan 30 minutes - try to judge based on traffic you see other days. for dinner in the hanalei area - Zelos, Hannelei Gourmet (very laid back), or Dolphin. sunset is beautiful also from the terrace of the Princeville hotel - grab a seat and a cocktail, gorgeous!

Nancy -
Kilauea to Kee can take approximately a half hour. We enjoyed Neide's last year and plan on dining there again this year (we leave for Kauai in two days). We have found a nice place to have cocktails, appetizers, and local entertainment at the Happy Talk Lounge at the Bali Hai Resort. Come as you are. The view of Bali Hai is incredible and we have always enjoyed the entertainment and atmosphere. In all the years we have visited Kauai's north shore, we have never driven to Kee for sunset so I can't tell you how parking would be. We do know that when we go to the beach there or to hike, you need to go rather early b/c parking is rather limited. Enjoy! |
Sunset at Ke`e is popular -- but be sure to use "Off" or some other strong repellant, as the mosquitoes love sunset time there, too! :-)
Kilauea to Ke`e drive time is typically 30-40 minutes. Parking is always an issue at Ke`e anymore, no matter what time of day... I live on the north shore and have never heard of "Neide's". Where is it?? As recommended by klqkauai, Hanalei Bay Resort's "Happy Talk Lounge" is a delightfully casual place to enjoy sunset, drinks, pupus and some great free entertainment. |
Auntie Maria:
I heard about Neide's on this site and in the Kauai Revealed books. It's a Mexican/Brazilian place in the Hanalei Center. Neide's Salsa & Samba |
HAve eaten at Neide's. Ate in the otdoor section. Beware, last time we were there there were cats everywhere, One chose to sit next to me on the bannister!!
|
Mahalo for the name -- we just call it "that Brazilian restaurant" (never really noticed the name). Good for lunch or dinner.
As for the cats, just shoo them away gently, or ask the waitress to move them. Whatever you do, don't feed any of them or you might end up with a cat on your lap :-) |
