Question about Hyatt gardenview rooms

My husband and are going to Kauai in Aprril and are staying at the Hyatt Regency. We really could not afford an oceanfront room, so we booked a gardenview instead. Has anyone ever stayed here?? What is the the gardenview like??

We stayed at the Hyatt on Kauai recently. You will love it. It's everything you would expect from a tropical resort. We had booked a lagoon view room originally, but when we got there asked if they could upgrade us. They did - to a full ocean view room - for no extra charge. I can't tell you what the gardenview will be like, but the rooms themselves were fine. The hotel's interconnecting pools are beautiful. Have breakfast at the Ilima Terrace and ask to sit next to the water, where you will see jumping koi and swans. By all means drive up to the Hanalei Bay, Princeville area. That side of the island is incredible. Eat lunch at Cafe Hanalei at the Princeville Resort. Go to Waimea Canyon. Try the Beach House Restaurant, but make reservations and go early to get a table by the water. See the Na Pali coast. You will have a wonderful time.

Sara, Thanks so much for the advice! That's great that they upgraded your room like that! Can't wait to go!

I just got back from the Hyatt Regency Kauai. This was the second time I stayed there. The first time I had either a partial ocean or Lagoon view (can't remember which, sorry) and the one I just had was the "Deluxe Ocean View" - basically the top room except for suites.

In walking around the resort, my boyfriend and I actually talked about when/if we go back, we'd get a garden view room. The price difference is immense, and from what I could tell all the rooms are beautiful. Sure, it's nice to see the ocean, but I could see being very happy in a room where the Lanai was hidden in a lush, tropical garden (as were some that we saw.)

If I were you, I'd call the hotel and talk to a concierge and tell them you're planning on coming, and ask if there's a garden view room or section that's especially nice. Chances are they can't guarantee that they'll put you in there, but you can at least request it. The hotel is so nice that I can't imagine any of the rooms being sub-par.

Jess,
We've stayed in both a deluxe oceanfront room and a mtn-view room at the Hyatt. I think that I would aim for something in between. The oceanfront room was nice but was a terrific walk from the lobby areas and felt remote. Our mtn view was really dark and backed up against the parking lot. Because we were only staying one night and really just wanted to play in the magnificent pools-the room was okay. The rooms and their furnishings were identical. Only the location differed. If there are no upgrades available during your visit, you might request one the the gardenview rooms along the south end of the low wing of the property. The second floor of this two story wing is ocean view but the first floor opens on to a large grassy area close enough to the ocean to hear it and in some cases, has a peakaboo view.

Thanks so much everyone for the suggestions...we really appreciate it! With two young children (2yr & 6mo old), we're really looking forward to getting away for a few days! Jess

Please read my review of the Resort at Epinons:

http://www.epinions.com/./lodg-revie...39EA690B-prod5

I have stayed there twice in 3 yrs, most recently in Oct. You will have a wonderful time in a gardenview rm. Although an oceanview rm is nice, since the hotel is situated back from the water, an oceanview rm doesn't really that much of a difference. Have a GREAT time!

Just returned from the Hyatt. While I stayed in an oceanfront room I do not think staying in a gardenview room is much of a difference. The rooms are set back from the ocean. It's a wonderful place have a great time.
