starrs, I'm not going anywhere that I know in advance will bore me, half-price or not!!

I wanted to see it because I didn't see it in the 70s. An actress I wanted to see was in the production. I'm glad I saw it (because I remember the bruhaha back in the 70s) but I didn't care for it. I saw several plays/musicals on that trip and it was definitely my least favorite.

I think how much you enjoy the musical may depend on your age and/or attitude to the themes of the play. I have seen it severl times (the first time the original) and have always loved it. But then I walked out on Miss Saigon because iI found it so boring. And would not go see Phantom again.

I saw Hair on Broadway in 2009 and enjoyed it tremendously. It was one of my favorite theater experiences that season. However, the cast is a big part of the success of the show, and I thought the cast of our production was really excellent. I love the music, though, and if you like that, I think you'll like the show. It's so different from Blue Man Group that I can't even begin to use that as a point of comparison.

Many plays grow on you over time. I didn't really enjoy Les Miserables the first time I saw it (and I saw it in house seats for free), but in the intervening years it's really grown on me. Hair wasn't one of the transcendent theater experiences of my life. I wasn't moved as I was at the recent Follies or even the production of Company with Raul Esparza. But I nevertheless enjoyed the production.

I saw the original Hair downtown during the first season of the Public Theater on Lafayette street in 3 quarter round. I was 16 and loved it. I didn't love the Broadway version or even the revival in the Park although both were quite good.

A few years ago, I saw the movie and while I will almost always prefer live theater to movies, the movie of Hair is great. They added a plot. The director was Milos Forman. The choreographer was a young Twyla Tharp and the shots of 1970's NYC are wonderful. See it whether you go to the play or not!

I saw the limited-engagment version on Broaday in NYC in August with my teenage niece. We won the ticket lottery so I didn't pay a lot. My understanding was that the actors were from the touring company.

I'd never seen it before and found it enjoyable. We were in the second row, and the audience interaction helped engage my niece, who (she's the first to admit) doesn't have the longest attention span. Would I have paid full price? No, but I was impressed by the level of energy on the stage, and it was fun given the circumstances.
