Quad Cinema Outrage

I am posting this message because I believe it will help Fodor's users and tourists to New York City. It regards Quad Cinema at 34 West 13th Street.
Beware: Ticket takers at the theater frequently engage in making ticket holders tear their own tickets in half if in any way the tickets have left the ticket holders hand, such as dropping it on the ground, or if it should get wet, etc. This has happened to me, and I have seen it happen to others, including elderly patrons. They make it clear that if it is not done the person will not be allowed in the theater.
While this may sound trivial, I have seen the ticket takers laugh in doing so, and it is clear that they take personal delight in this practice. It is rude and quite shocking.
I hope this information is helpful to this forum.

It is actually a test. If you are not strong enough to tear your own ticket in half, you might have a heart attack in the theatre, so they don't want you to enter.

Yes, it involves a certain amount of profiling, which is not politically correct these days, but they are willing to accept a certain amount of outrage in order to protect their strong and healthy patrons from disturbances.

I say, "More power to 'em!"

. . so what is to terrible about having to tear a ticket???

Come on now - there are all sorts of real problems in the world.

If these ticket takers bother you so much go to a different theater - there are only about a hundred in Manhattan.

Hey, at least give the OP credit for having a unique first posting!

I have never had this problem at The Quad or at any other movie house, theater, or other entertainment venue in New York City or any other place in the world and I am not going to put it on my list of things to look out for.

Maybe you unwittingly offended the ticket taker.

Well, heck... I have no idea what this person even said so I don't think I will be concerned.

What the heck does this mean?

"making ticket holders tear their own tickets in half if in any way the tickets have left the ticket holders hand, such as dropping it on the ground, or if it should get wet, etc."

Makes no sense at all.

I don't get it, either, and I have been going to the Quad most of my life.
