Hi all,
Sorry I took so long to post my experience at the QT. Perfect location in midtown and very close to all the major subway lines. I was spending lots of time in areas south of Times Square -- Grenwich, Soho, East village, Chelsea, Lower Manhattan, etc., and enjoyed having a hotel near those lines. The first impression: the hotel used to be an old office building, so when you walk through the doors, the lobby is small, and the counter looks a little like a newstand, but the young employees there are extremely helpful and earnest in providing service. At one end of the (very small) lobby, you'll see glass windows that face the small pool and bar area. The common areas are dimly lit -- little natural light available. The room I stayed in was small, but pretty fun, actually. The bed was a platform bed that faced a plasma tv on the wall. The room is so small, you can only get into bed from one side. The other side butts up against the outer wall and window to the street. Small closet. Large vanity. There's a shower room and a toilet that share a sliding door. Both are on one end of the room divided by a wall. If you use the shower, you can slide the door to the left for privacy. If using the toilet, you slide the door to the right. Fun for a single-- and should work fine for a couple, too. In the room, there was the usual honor bar, fairly nice soap, shampoo, conditioner, but no coffee maker which was disappointing. Continental breakfast is included, and very basic -- cereal, yogurt, fruit, pastries, coffee & juice. Served in their bar area on all their modern (not terribly comfortable) furniture. I took a swim both mornings in the pool and that was very nice. No one seems to use the pool much, but it's very swanky-feeling. Dimly lit, with lighting provided by the bar next to it. Adjacent to pool, there's also a large shower room and sauna (which wasn't ready for the guests, yet). All in all, if you're travelling alone or with someone you're very comfortable with (since room is small), the hotel is perfectly clean, functional, and very quiet (at least it was for my stay). If you get a good rate, book it fast. Quikbook.com had it listed recently for a weekend I was looking at in the fall. And I should mention again that the staff was very helpful in their restaurant recommendations, with very nice attitudes.
