PWS 4 hr tour reviews

Has anyone done the Prince William Sound 4 hr tour that is in the toursaver book as well as the Portage Clacier and Nw Fjord cruise? My husband is thinking we will be missing something if we don't include the PWS and should take all three boat trips. He asked me to ask the experts on Fodors! What is your opinion? Just how many glaciers does one need to see? Or are these and the area too good to miss?

Portgage Glacier cruise is on a lake. The visitors center is great but you can skip the boat ride. The glacier didn't calve for us on the NW Fjord cruise. We were lucky to see a mother and baby humpback whale plus several pods of orcas. If you really like being out on a boat, you would probably enjoy both the PWS and NW tours. It also depends on how much time you are spending in Alaska. Flying over a glacier is fun, too. Keep in mind that Seward is a wonderful town to visit. Whittier is a former secret military base. My husband loved the drive thru the amazing tunnel but we wouldn't spend the night in Whittier again.

I have done the three. The Portage Glacier boat ride is short and a nice close look at the glacier, but the visitor center is the highlight here. PWS is just excellent for extended varied glacier viewing. If of interest there is little duplication in my opinion.

Based on your advise, I think we will skip the Portage tour and take the 4 hr. PWS cruise the day after we take the NW Kenai Fjord tour. I basically want to see some blue ice and calving and sounds like the best bet is the PWS. Am I correct?

The PWS tours are all glaciers, so yes correct. :)
