Puerto Rico: Condado Plaza or Embassy Suites?

Looking for one nite stay before a cruise.

Given the same price for each, which would you choose?

Bo, before you decide, go to www.biddingfortravel.com and scroll down to Puerto Rico hotels. Check out which hotels Priceline uses in the Old Town area. You might get one of these hotels at a great rate. You can find out what others have paid recently for hotels in the area. If you decide to bid on PL, just make sure you go right past the screen that tells you what your minimum bid should be.

Out of curiosity, I just checked this out. There's no zone on BFT that just covers Old Town, which is near the pier. But, if you bid at the 3-star level, you'd get either the Embassy Suites or the Wyndham Old San Juan. We stayed at the Wyndham pre- and post-cruise and it was a good choice. If I were ever to sail from San Juan again, that's what I'd do. You may want to post your question on the cruise board for additional replies.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions.

I'm experienced with Priceline but like the friendlier 'help' site of BetterBidding.com which also covers Hotwire hotels.

Depending upon the strategy i use, i will likely get either of these hotels, so i'm just trying to determine which approach i should take.

Unfortunately questions like this one aren't welcomed at BFT, as the moderator would just re-iterate that i can't choose a hotel.

I would choose Condado Plaza. It is closer to Old San Juan, where you will cruise from. Also, it is a nicer hotel than Embassy Suites and in an area with lots of restaurants. It also has a prety nice casino and some live entertainment.

Thanks for the reply, that's the sort of comparison i was looking for :)

I have actually stayed at the Condado Plaza, but it was 10 years ago. I thought the hotel and service were both great at the time, but i've read recent reports where the hotel is beginning to show it's age (i really don't care too much, as i can deal with almost anything for just one nite, but those i'm traveling with care a little more than i)

On the other hand, i have never stayed at an Embassy Suites and i have heard good things about the chain in general. The location didn't bother me too much as i think it's close to the airport, so it would just mean a shorter ride from the airport and longer ride to the port, rather than vice-versa if we stayed at the Condado Plaza.

Any add'l comments from anyone that has stayed at either are welcomed.

Thanks again!

I have stayed at both (Condado, four years ago, and Embassy Suites, two years ago). If I were in your shoes, I would stay at the Condado Plaza for location and ambience.

I stayed at the Condado Plaza last year , and for one night pre cruise i think it would be perfect. It is a nice hotel with a lovely pool area. ALso you could go eat at the nearby and delicious
