Puerto Rico
Hi, Has anyone been to Puerto Rico? Do you need a passport?
|
An original government-issued birth certificate with a raised seal will work.
I've been to San Juan, and the Dorado & Cerromar Beach area. Where are you thinking about going? |
travel_addict's info regarding passports for Puerto Rico is not entirely correct. It will depend on your nationality. PR is a US Territory so if you are a US Citizen you do not need any special documentation to enter Puerto Rico - you can come and go as you please (if you are flying in you'll need a government issued photo I.D. to get your boarding pass at the airport when you leave your home state). If you are a citizen of another country you'll need the same documentation that is required for you to enter into the US (minimum is a passport - if you are from certain countries you'll need a visa - check with the US Consulate in your home country for exact requirements).

Thanks for the information. So, if I understand correctly,I shouldn't anything different than traveling to any other US state. Meaning I should just need a drivers liscence?
Thanks so much fo the help. I'm trying to plan a last inute trip! |
A_Traveller's right - it does depend on your nationality. I just assumed you were a US citizen by your post.
I also double-checked on the birth certificate too and it's not necessary if you show your driver's license. Sorry for the wrong info... I'm going to go hang my head in shame now... :( |
LOL no head hanging please! I am a US citizen. Thanks so much for the information. I am one of those last hold outs without a passport. I am trying to plan a trip in the next 2-4 weeks and didn't want to have to wait for a passport. I am assuming the same rules would apply for the US virgin Islands?
Thansk again |
We recently traveled to Puerto Rico and brought our passports, just in case. Since I was with my ten year old son, it was the best form of ID that I have for him.
We never really needed it in Puerto Rico, but here is the reason why I brought them along: The agent from Jet Blue who was booking my flight suggested that these days, whenever you travel out of the continental United States, bring a passport so that you can be sure they will let you BACK IN! |
<<I am one of those last hold outs without a passport.>>
Not really, an astonishingly small percentage of US citizens hold passports. |
