Public Transit in Broward County
Hi:
Well I tried this one before, with no responses...so though I'd give it just one more try!
Anyone who lives in (or spends frequent time in) the Broward County area of Florida and has found he can actually get around fairly well just using the bus system there? (instead of a car).
I was thinking about moving to Broward County, and I've been carless in NYC for quite a few years. So, can you do it with the busses or must I plan on getting a car again?
Also, is the bus system better in certain parts of the county or just as good or (or bad) everywhere in the county???

I live in Broward County. If you plan on working full time, you will definitely need a car. There are buses and a tri-rail train but it is NOT like NYC!

If you are going to be retired and have lots of time to deal with delays and pure slowness, than maybe you can survive...however I think you still need a car here. This is a driving town.

I've lived in Broward for 14 years, and you'll definitely need a car...

Thanks for the replies! Well, doesn't sound too encouraging for me to go carless if I move there. Actually, I will be retired, but from the way you describe it...doesn't sound too good. Really a shame though, because I read somewhere that they are trying very hard to encourage people there to get out of their cars and use public transit, but seems like they haven't been trying hard enough to make it appealing enough for people to do so.
Anyone else with good (or bad) experiences with Broward County Transit busses is welcome to post...Thanks....

Frank:

All that I can tell you is that when staying at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL (5 miles north of Ft. L), there was a Pompano Beach mass transit bus always coming by this small town. I know this because when on vacation in May there was construction on A1A and traffic was detoured down El Mar Drive and I saw this bus regularly and I think it went into Ft. Lauderdale.

I'm the original poster...I am just topping this thread in case there were anyone else that would comment on their experiences with Broward County Transit busses in Florida....(good or bad).

http://www.broward.org/gfi01000.htm
shows a LOT of possibilities, but it's always best if you can live walking distance to a good grocery store.
