Public transit between Baltimore & DC

DH is thinking about going over to DC to see the cherry blossoms when we visit son in Baltimore next month. We have used the Metro on previous trips to DC, usually parking at a suburban station or being in walking distance from a stop.

What is the best way to get from Baltimore to DC, probably a Monday or Tuesday, without having to drive?

Take the MARC train during the week between Baltimore and DC's Union Station. On the weekend, there are no MARC trains. You can take Amtrak (more expensive than the MARC train) or leave your car at a Metro stop. On weekends there is generally plenty of parking at Metro. During the week, the parking lots generally are filled with commuters. You can't depend on always getting a space.

Your son should be able to explain the options.

Have fun!

Thanks LaurenKahn. Son has only lived in Baltimore for 2 weeks, so is of little help. I think we will plan on taking the MARC. Are there stops near Elkridge [out near BWI]?

The MARC train's Camden Line has a stop in Elkridge (the "Dorsey" stop). The Penn line stops at BWI.

Here's link for MARC:

I live in North Baltimore, so I always use Penn Station if I'm taking the train to DC, and have never used the Camden Line.

Thanks BaltoTraveler. That's exactly the information I was looking for. It also looks like using the light rail system will be good for heading to downtown.
