The Imperial Inn in Chinatown in Philadelphia has a pupu platter; we always had fun with the flames. And anytime is a good time to come to Philadelphia!

"King Yum's Polynesian Chinese Restaurant." OMG, that's hilarious. Is that the predecessor of PF Chang's?

Holy Crap!!! This thread is truly intriguing as pupu platters were a coming of age for me. Who came up with them and how did they spread like wildfire on the mainland?

We know pu pu's are from hawaii. Yet people in hawaii seem not to understand the quintessential pupu platter mainland style. I mean we mainlanders grew up with chinese/polynesian restaurants in the burbs. It was the one place you could go, play with fire in a dark funky lounge, eat chickenfingers, terriakki beef, chicken wings, fried shrimp and boneless spareribs.....never back in the day did crab rangoon exhist in my hood...

We smoke and drank underage...and then of age after work....the famous Scorpion Bowl with the 151rum lit to make a volcano would be a drink to share a booze ridden drink in a bowl with your significant other thru a couple of straws.

Kowloon is a long drive for me, but I was there many years ago and think it would be fun to like your mom relive her girlhood.....although mine may have been quite a bit more tarnished than hers!!!

Happy hunting, and someone pleeze google to origins of the whole pupuplatter thaaangg!!!
